My solo is called "Release" and is about a dancer utilizing dance to escape reality and grow. Throughout my dance there is a lot of extensions and pieces of calmness surrounded by those of intense sharper moves showing how even through the calm there is chaos and you have to navigate through them. By the end of the dance there is a point where I grab everything and release letting go of these chaotic moments and feeling hope, calmness and peace. Overall through this dance you are able to escape reality and realize all of your negative emotions and just live freely.

The title of my dance is called the "Warrior". The story of my dance is basically saying that there is a Warrior from Ancient Asia. He used to be the general and leader of the army. His glory is shining on his sword until he losses his beloved. Thus, he begins to lose his mind. He starts to hurt other people. He wishes to find his love, but despite being in many places he is not able to see her again. At the end, the general realizes he is actually the one that murdered her.

 Distance

Addison Whitney
Music: The Winner Is

https://youtu.be/leZsqe2w5AY

This piece to me is about the distance between myself and my home. Moving 2000 miles away from everyone and everything I know has been harder than I ever imagined so this piece is about the conflicting sadness I’ve felt. It is about feeling homesick and longing for a past that only exists in my memory. The song I chose is an old recital piece of mine, my brother sent it to me a few weeks ago and told me how much he misses me and how proud he is of me. I want this piece to encapsulate the feeling of longing and missing home. Feeling the distance.
